Good morning! Or good afternoon to those on the east coast. It is the last day of 2015 and I’d say it was certainly a successful year in some areas. Although we didn’t reach our goal of 200 subscribers, we did create the most videos ever in a year (excluding the Everyone’s Favourite Hero series in 2012) but that is what really matters. Eighteen videos isn’t a lot but considering it was an important and busy year for school, that is quite an achievement.
Don’t be fooled though. 2016 will be a different year and you know it. Our goal is to reach 1000 subscribers but that’s not important. In 2016, we’ll focus on making a lot more videos than this year and make them much better. As usual, our first video of the year will be a channel update where we talk about future projects. Be sure to check that out when it’s out as we’ll be discussing about our next big project Speechless Part 4 and possibly the continuation for the film The Hero Rises.
Now, this website hasn’t been publicly announced yet and I am just writing this blog just to try out some things so I don’t expect anyone to read this so bear with me here. I am still in my pyjamas and I woke up deciding to write a review on 2015 with no intent on having it written in an organized format. Then again, this is just a blog for fun. But if you are reading this, congratulations! I wish you good sleep in the year to come!
Since this is a post about the departure of 2015, perhaps I shall discuss about major Red Curtain Entertainment events of the year. I’m not sure where to start so I’ll just start by saying, what an exhausting and interesting year.
I have learned a lot from this year. If you look back at the first videos released in January, you can notice subtle improvements in the production quality. Since it was our last year in high school, university applications were a thing and so we couldn’t film our final Speechless video. Instead our video, LIAR was created as an application requirement for Ryerson University. I am grateful for all those who helped on this film but I feel it was my lack of preparation that lead to the declination of my admittance to the school. I’ve learned that you can’t reserve half a day for the entire pre-production of a film involving over 14 people (It was during the busiest time in the school year and I had major projects due so shhh… don’t judge). I did make several mistakes during the shoot as a result but overall, it worked out in the end and I have no regrets for the project. Remember folks! You can’t be regretful for any project you work on even if it was a total failure! I have no regrets for The Lost City of Shiet (2014) project. (Look at that. Free advice from me.)
Anywho, the filming of Speechless Part 4 was postponed to the summer resulting in having to rewrite the script. However, we became busy with other projects and I ventured off to Newfoundland for a couple weeks. I didn’t talk much about it after returning from the trip because it became something not worth talking about for a year. I created an ambitious plan and was far from completing it. That’s all I can say about it. But as I mentioned earlier, I have no regrets. I learned a lot from it and I’m sure my “biking partner” did as well. This trip was something we’ve never done before! Maybe next year, I’ll talk more about it or perhaps make a vlog showing some footage from the trip.
By the end of the summer, before I left to Europe where I met with Tim for the first time in a year and we filmed the videos How to Make a Million Dollar Meal and The Hero Rises, we planned on filming Speechless Part 4. I’d say we were prepared enough to film it but as usual, it was rushed and we didn’t have enough people to make the film. I did talk about this in my rad video log back in September.
