What's the big idea?

For the third semester visual effects project, I plan on filming a shot at sunset of a soldier walking through a field when a plane with a fiery engine flies overhead towards a city in flames. I choose to film this shot because I was interested in combining cinematography and visual effects to convey a story. I also wanted to challenge myself with working in a different lighting environment such as sunset.

Storyboard

Beginning Frame: The shot begins with a full shot of the soldier.
The camera pans left (and moves forward) revealing the sunset and the city.

Final Frame: The soldier stops walking as soon as the camera stops in the final position. The plane flies over and crashes behind the trees.

References & Resources

References

For the city matte painting, my idea is to have a few buildings damaged to show that the scene is taking place during some sort of chaotic event as seen in the reference.

This clip demonstrates the type shot and movement that I plan on shooting.

Although the lighting and angles are different in this shot, I plan on using the clip as a reference for the plane’s smoke trail (and perhaps the plane’s motion).

The Field

I plan on shooting on location at a field in East Gwillimbury. I have filmed at the location before so I am familiar with the environment.
